How we use your data

RIA Ascent exists to give your firm a clearer picture of itself, and to leave you in control of who else sees it.

What you get

Every SEC-registered firm that reports assets under management starts with an RIAAS score and a confidence level built from its public filings, and its owners see a Firm Portrait valuation range. What you add that filings can't show makes each of them sharper and more accurate. RIAAS benchmarks SEC-registered advisers today; state-registered scoring is on the way.

Who sees what

  • Owners — people listed on the firm's Schedule A with 5% or more ownership — see the Firm Portrait valuation, what is holding the score down, and the financial and operating answers they submit.
  • Everyone at the firm who links to it sees the firm's RIAAS score and its confidence level. They don't see the valuation or the owners' answers.
  • A firm's owners share one profile, so each owner sees what the others enter.
  • Anyone with an account can look up any firm's public Form ADV information, the same information the SEC publishes.

How we use it

We use what firms share, stripped of anything that identifies them, to build the benchmarks, trends and insights every firm on the platform sees — how firms like yours compare, and where the market is moving. We also use it to match firms with the vendors, partners and acquirers that fit what they are trying to do.

You decide what is shared

Nothing you enter identifies your firm to a buyer, partner or vendor unless you choose to share it. You decide what is shared, with whom and when — and you would share it because it helps your firm, whether that is hearing from the right acquirer or being introduced to the right vendor.

RIAAS is a benchmark for the whole market

RIAAS is meant to be a measure the whole RIA marketplace can use. Today a firm's score is visible only inside that firm. We will publish RIAAS scores and confidence levels at a future date. When we do, the private details behind a score stay private: the confidence level shows whether a score rests on public filings alone or on information the firm has provided — never what that information was.

If a sale or succession is on your mind

Your answers to the sale and succession questions never affect your score. They are never shown to buyers, partners or anyone outside your firm, and they never mark your firm as for sale — which matters if you are under a letter of intent with confidentiality terms. Any introduction happens only if you ask for it. Answering does sign you up for RIA Ascent product update emails; email us and we will take you off.
